Based on initial customer and developer feedback, Apple has made improvements to its USB software for iMac customers. The iMac Update 1.0 includes these improvements. It improves the customer experience with many USB peripherals.
Who needs the iMac Update?
While every iMac customer should install this update, only iMac customers that use additional USB devices other than the Apple USB keyboard and Apple USB mouse included with their iMac are likely to notice the improvements after installation. Only iMac customers should install this update.
Before you install
Mac OS 8.1 and the iMac System Enabler 462 version 1.0 should already be installed on your iMac computer.
IMPORTANT: In order to install iMac Update 1.0, turn off any security software and virus protection programs and restart your computer. While installing this upgrade will not affect the integrity of the files stored on your hard disk, it is highly recommended that you back up any files that are important before running a software installer.
Instructions:
1. Download the iMac Update 1.0 software
2. Double-click the iMac Update file to open it. This will create a new (volume) icon on the
Desktop named "iMac Update" containing the installer.
If there was a problem downloading the file, a dialog will notify you. In that case, try
downloading it again.
3. Double-click the iMac Update volume icon on the Desktop to open it.
4. Double-click the Read Me icon and read any last minute instructions or notes, then
choose Quit to close the Read Me document.
5. Double-click the Installer icon to begin the installation of the software update.
6. Click the Switch Disk button until your startup volume appears in the Destination Disk
window.
7. Click the Install button.
8. When you see the dialog "installation was successful" click okay and then restart
your iMac.
What is installed?
The iMac Update 1.0 software will replace the previous "Mac OS ROM" file in the System folder of your iMac with an updated version. The newer ROM file includes the USB enhancements.
